Would you like to work for an integrated sexual health service, which has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC?

We are looking for passionate and experienced Sexual Health Specialist Nurses to work in Derby City and the surrounding area, who will be experienced in all aspects of sexual health and contraception management including LARC 

The successful applicant  will be passionate and want to deliver excellent, integrated, sexual health care  and be part of an energetic team of professionals.


Main duties of the job

The band 6 nurse within sexual health services will work in a busy integrated sexual health environment, within a multidisciplinary team. The staffing structure is designed to support the delivery of core services at 
a variety of locations throughout Derbyshire and Derby City to improve sexual health outcomes for the population. 
The post holder will assess, plan and deliver all aspects of sexual health care and will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake duties concurrent with this level of seniority from the list below in line 
with Faculty of Sexual Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH), British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and NICE guidance:
- promotion/issuing of all methods of contraception (for example the fitting of long acting reversible 
contraception (IUD/S and SDI)
- screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- perform diagnostic procedures and provide treatment and management of STIs 
- Health Advising/Partner Notification and Result Management
- cervical cytology
- microscopy
- cryotherapy
Agreement in relation to which requirements apply will be reached individually.

The successful candidates will:

  • Be  innovative individuals who possesses exceptional communication skills, including a non-judgmental attitude
  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Be  Registered Nurses and have previous, relevant experience in a sexual health/contraception setting
  • Have skills and experience  of sexual and reproductive health,  including IUD fitting
  • Be willing to travel to other clinics within Derby/Derbyshire depending on the service needs

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse – Level 1 Adult, direct entry midwife or RMN
  • Current NMC registration
  • Qualification: Family Planning Certificate ENB 901/ 8103 or Contraception and Sexual Health in practice (CASH) or equivalent
  • Holder of , or willing to work towards, BASHH STI competencies or equivalent
  • Holder of FSRH and LoC in IUT and SDI Specialist qualifications in fitting/removal of intra-uterine system/devices and contraceptive implants
  • Within an agreed timescale it is expected that individuals will work towards the following: Cryotherapy training
  • Within an agreed timescale it is expected that individuals will work towards the following: Venepuncture training
  • Teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Independent nurse prescriber
  • Cervical Cytology sample taker


Essential criteria
  • 2 years previous experience in a sexual health environment for example Genito-Urinary Medicine, Contraception and Sexual Health
  • Experience of: teaching nursing and non-nursing students
  • Experience of: Audit and Quality Assurance systems to develop client focused services
  • Knowledge of: current contraceptive methods and sexual health care and treatment
  • Knowledge of: safeguarding procedures
