Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our new team.
 
This would be working  with adults over the age of 18 who have autistic spectrum disorder. You will have a complex and varied caseload, being responsible for delivering specialist assessment and intervention strategies.  
 
We are a cohesive, client focused multi disciplinary team who  believe in delivering a person centred approach to the lives of people who have a learning disability.

Main duties of the job

We work collaboratively to deliver a co-ordinated, multi-disciplinary, multi-agency service with health, social care and education professionals as well as clients and their carers.

This is in line with the principles in line with NHS England paper “Building the Right Support” where the starting point should always be for mainstream services to support people with autism, making reasonable adjustments where necessary and with access to specialist multi-disciplinary support as appropriate.

A core element of any such specialist provision should therefore be on enabling mainstream services, and other partners, to support people directly.  Where meeting health and care needs are particularly complex, more intensive specialist multi-disciplinary support may be needed to ensure equity of outcome for people.

We Provide specialist clinical intervention and person centred  treatment for people who have ASD and deliver appropriate training, advice and education where needed for their support networks and carers that are in place.

Working for our organisation

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

As a Specialist SLT the post holder will be required to:-

  • Provide specialist assessment, treatment, advice and education for clients with ASD, the majority of whom will  present with a wide range of complex and multiple problems.
  • Work closely with a variety of service providers and agencies throughout the Derbyshire to provide an holistic approach to the treatment of adults with ASD.  
  • Participate in the development of effective, responsive, evidence based person-centred services.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of successful completion of post registration education
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working with people with Autism
  • Experience of working with people whose behaviour may challenge
  • Experience of community working
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
